Timeline explained

Our time line has been broken up into 30 second slots and therefore we have a accurate time analysis of our music video. We have had lots of ideas for our time line. Most of them appear to be in the first 30 seconds, therefore we have put all of the ideas in the 30 second gap on the time line. Therefore we aim to film as many of these different ideas as possible and then chose the ones that work the best or the ones that fit in the best with the song. For example we have the idea of the girl getting out of bed and getting ready in her mirror with stop motion wording written across the mirror in lipstick and also the idea of the girl reading a newspaper and having a drink while doodling in her notebook. These scenes all fit in well with the first 30 seconds of the song, we may however alter some of these ideas to fit them further along in the song.
After this start to the time line the rest follows on with the girl walking through the town and doing various things such as entering a party at 2:00 minutes, this fits in with the lyrics of the song. We have aimed to base most of the song around the lyrics. Then to finish the time line goes back to where the girl started where she gets back into bed, therefor the video is a following of the girls day.

Music Video Storyboard Timeline.

During today's lesson we are completing a music video storyboard time line which is a professional practice designed to map out basic timings and ideas. Ours is shown below..

Lyrics.

These are the lyrics for our song. We were looking at these very closely so we can fit our ideas around them and involve them when filming so the finished video seems to be telling a story.
For example, the lines 'Now if I'm standing at a party waiting for the train', we are going to film at the train station in stop motion.

I see you out sometimes by coincidence
Been reading about you, I know where you've been
You don't know how much I liked you and I think of you
So much to tell you, to fill you in

Where you go
Is where I want to be
Wherever you go
Is where I want to be

I wonder if it's right to call you a friend
I remember your eyes, they made me way too late
Now if I'm standing at a party waiting for the train
I know you're out there, can't wait till we meet again

Where you go
Is where I want to be
Wherever you go
Is where I want to be

Where you go
Is where I want to be
Wherever you go
Is where I want you to lead me
To lead me

So much to tell you
I have to find you
It's time I see you
I wish we were alone
And it was late at night
I met you at a party
It was a crowded room
I couldn't hear you talking
You tried to hold my hand
And then you left without me
But don't you know that where you go
Is where I want to be

Mood Boards

Here I Have Found Images I Think Is Relevant For Our Project. We Will Use Some Of These Ideas Within Our Music Video.

Research On Existing Videos.

Students Work - Music Video 08-09

We have chosen this music video as an example as we plan to use the same idea of stop-motion. It is not an amazing video but portrays the same ideas that we are hoping to include in our own video.

We have chosen this music video as an example as we like the girly theme used throughout. The video is a little boring but it captures some of the same ideas that we would like to use.

Actual Music Videos

We like this video, as although its not an official music video, its very cute and girly and used the idea of doodles and hand drawn animation, which is an idea we are very keen on.

Again, we like this video by Kate Nash as we are very keen on the vintage style used in the video and also on the small amount of animation used in the video. There is an example of stop-motion when a pair of socks appears to move around the floor. The video is the official music video and we like the theme throughout, as well as some of the individual scenes.

Pitch For Music Video.

The song we have chosen for our music video is 'Where You Go' by Au Revoir Simone. We have had lots of initial ideas for this video already and have decided to opt for a very girly theme to match the theme of the track. An idea we are keen to use in our video is stop-motion - which is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object or person appear to move on its own. The object or person is moved tiny amounts between each individually photographed frame, creating an illusion of movement when the series of images is played as a sequence. We are also keen to integrate some doodles, using stop-motion, and other hand-drawn images into our video, to create overall a very cute and girly theme. We would like to use one main character as the singer, preferably a vintage looking girl in a summer dress, who will perform throughout the video. However, we are also planning to use a lot of extra's to add to the video at some points to make it believable and more dramatic. There will be a range of locations used in the video - at the moment we are considering a garden or park scene, a town scene and also a party scene to match the lyrics at one point. We have gathered a lot of images and other video examples already, some of which are shown on our blog, and would like to integrate a lot of these ideas into our video but make them more unique and individual.
We have had many ideas in relation to the girl's appearance - we want her to look very summery, so need to take account of the weather whilst filming. We would like her to be vintage looking, so again need to take costume requirements into consideration and find out whether they are realistic or too ambitious. Also, we need to consider the likelihood of getting as many extra's as we need together at any one time in the same place and being able to get
a successful scene. Things like this may need to be reconsidered should we run out of time on our video.
We have researched the band to gain as much background information on them as possible, so we can create a realistic and professional looking final product which is relevant to their music.
We are keen to experiment as much as possible with this video to make it as unique and interesting as possible, but want to avoid being over-ambitious as it may make the video look tacky. We are looking forward to working to our full potential so we can produce a video that we are all very pleased with.
